It’s All About The Bandhas, Baby!

THE BANDHAS

“Bandha” is a Sanscrit word meaning to Lock or Seal.  There are 3 main Bandhas or Energy Centers in the body.  Our energy is continually flowing just as water does in a river.  In yoga when we engage the Bandhas we momentarily stop the flow of energy just as if you were to build a dam in a river, as we engage the bandhas the energy builds up and builds up as the water would.  When the bandhas are released it creates a surge of energy that flows through the body eliminating toxins. Practicing the bandhas cultivates and enlivens the energy externally and internally nourishing and strengthening every single cell in your body.
Mula Bandha: Root Lock
This bandha is near the base of the spine in the pelvic floor area. Practicing Mula Bandha is stabilizing, calming and awakens the creative sexual energy which gives us vibranceand vitality.
Uddiyana Bandha: Stomach Lift
The abdomen is the seat of power in the body.  Engaging this area enlivens the solar plexus giving us strength and power and lifts the energy body from the lower body to the upper body.
Jalandhara Bandha: Chin Lock
The neck is the main connection from the heart to the brain.  Chin Lock strengthens and nourishes the brain increasingIntuition and Clarity.

AWAKEN ALL THREE BANDHAS WITH BRIDGE POSE
Lying Down 
Breathe 6-9 Times
Raise Hips
Breathe 6-9 Times
Knees to Chest
Knees Wide Apart
Lift your hips towards the sky, interlace your fingers palms towards each other.  Keep your head on the mat – Chin towards belly and a pleasant look on your face.  Take 6-9 breaths and slowly lower down, bringing knees towards your shoulders and gently rock right and left.
